Public Art in Philomath

Art increases the livability, human interaction, and artistic richness of a city particularly when making art a permanent part of the environment and a legacy for future generations. The City of Philomath public art program plays a strong role in community and helps stimulate economic vitality. The art initiative for the City is a vital ingredient in the cultural fabric and streetscape of our creative community. The initiative provides opportunities to increase awareness, appreciation, knowledge and education of public art by developing a sense of place, community pride and identity through the creation of new works. Public art provides an opportunity for artists to reach creative solutions to aesthetic opportunities.

Philomath is a community rooted in education, volunteerism, and hard work, shaped by its natural surroundings at the base of Marys Peak. With a strong heritage and a spirit of service, the city values connection, creativity, and thoughtful growth while preserving its small-town character.

The art collection of Philomath is held in trust for the public. It seeks to engage people and capture the essence, diversity and personality of Philomath. The guidelines contained in this document define how the collection will be developed and maintained, as well as how the City will proceed with its public art initiatives.
